CPAs are known for high ethical standards, strategic insights and their capacity to identify solutions to complex issues in today’s business world. Each year, CPA Ontario seeks to honour select members who exemplify these attributes. The Fellows (FCPA) distinction formally recognizes those members whose achievements and contributions, in their careers and in the community, have rendered exceptional service to the profession. Becoming a Fellow is the highest honour that can be bestowed on a CPA.

Kevin Adolphe

Kevin Adolphe, FCPA, FCA

Throughout his international career, Kevin Adolphe has leveraged his training at PwC to become a change agent with a demonstrated capacity to translate vision into realized goals. As President and CEO of Manulife Asset Management Private Markets, he commercialized private asset capabilities for clients and investors worldwide. At CIBC World Markets, he was integral in driving international expansion. At both organizations, he led ambitious global cost reduction initiatives. Kevin co-sponsored the Manulife Accounting Professionals’ Development Program to support young professionals seeking CPA designations; was recognized a “Champion of Change” by Women in Capital Markets; and mentors students at U of T’s Rotman School of Management. He was also Director of CivicAction and chaired CIBC World Markets’ United Way Campaign.

Roxanne Anderson

Roxanne Anderson, FCPA, FCA

Roxanne Anderson is Founder and CEO of March Advisory Inc., a boutique advisory firm that provides operational, financial, and strategic expertise to boards, investors and management experiencing transformational events. She is also a Board Director for not-for-profit organizations, multiple privately held corporations, and Quarterhill, a public company. Previously, Roxanne was Managing Partner at PwC, where she focused on transformational mandates. Roxanne is passionate about making an impact concerning positive outcomes for those affected by mental illness. She embraces innovation, and was Board Director at a startup that developed a mental health app as well as The Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research. Currently, she serves as Board Trustee of The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group.

David Arnold

David Arnold, FCPA, FCA

David Arnold is the Executive Vice-President and Global Controller at CIBC, where he oversees global accounting and reporting for the CIBC Group of Companies. In addition, David is leading CIBC’s enterprise-wide transformation and simplification efforts. Previously, David was instrumental in launching CIBC’s CPA-approved program, the first at a major Canadian bank. David also holds the ICD.D designation as a qualified Corporate Director, and has previously sat on the board of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank as well as the Audit & Risk Committee at CIBC-Mellon, where he also served as Chair. David has volunteered for numerous not-for-profit organizations, and has been actively involved in fundraising efforts for the Run for the Cure, United Way, Children’s Aid Foundation, and Sick Kids Foundation.

Debbie Baxter, FCPA, FCMA

Deloitte LLP Partner Debbie Baxter was originally hired to introduce real estate efficiency measures to corporations in Canada. This concept, called Activity Based Work, reduced Deloitte’s own real estate costs by approximately 25 per cent, and is now being adopted by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, and many other organizations. Since Debbie joined Deloitte in 2014, her team has become the largest real estate strategy advisory team in Canada. Debbie serves as Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee at Stewardship Ontario and as a Program Advisory Council member for Seneca College’s Sustainable Business Management program. Previously, she volunteered for the International Women’s Forum, the Cleantech & Technology practices at MaRS, and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Michael Bunn, FCPA, FCA

Michael Bunn is Principal at Grant Thornton LLP, where he began his career more than 35 years ago. A dedicated accountant and volunteer, Michael upholds the integrity of the accounting profession while giving back to his community in significant ways. As President of the Kiwanis Club, Michael encouraged the Orillia Club to adopt the Terrific Kids Reading Program, which expanded to 13 schools across the city. During his time as board member of the Directors of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, Michael helped create a YMCA that was fiscally stronger — one that has now tripled in size and serves over 50,000 children and families in the region. He also serves as Treasurer at both the Orillia Museum of Art and History and the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce, and is Director of the Community Development Corporation of Orillia.

Luciano Cacioppo, FCPA, FCA

As Partner and Private Leader for Ontario at Deloitte LLP, Luciano Cacioppo is responsible for growing Deloitte’s service lines in the private company market space. Luciano also created The Deloitte Private Trusted Business Advisor Training program that, in five years, has provided more than 2,000 partners and staff with the skills necessary to be successful CPAs. For close to 20 years, Luciano has coached more than 15 private companies under the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program and is now playing a key role in launching the platform globally. In addition, Luciano has served as President at the Sons of Italy charitable organization and currently sits on the board and finance committees at St. Joseph’s Health Systems and the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.

Alycia Calvert, FCPA, FCA

Alycia Calvert is Canadian Managing Partner, Tax Services, and a member of the Executive Committee at Ernst & Young (EY). Widely respected for her leadership in Canada’s tax profession, Alycia’s exceptional performance has contributed to top- and bottom-line growth for three consecutive years, helping EY outperform its competitors and move its tax brand to a top position in the Canadian market. Alycia also serves as Second Vice-Chair on the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Board of Governors, is a member of CPA Canada’s Tax Advisory Committee, and has presented and moderated at numerous conferences and events throughout her 25-year career. A role model both inside and outside the firm, Alycia also mentors female tax executives, providing counsel on how to achieve success.

Marlene Cepparo, FCPA, FCA

As Partner and Partner-in-Charge at KPMG LLP’s National Tax Centre, Marlene Cepparo leads the firm’s national tax learning strategy. In this role, she developed a multi-pronged learning strategy focused on technical training based on client type and experience level. Marlene created monthly sessions on technical topics for tax professionals to expand their understanding beyond their current line of service, and a refresher series for tax managers. In addition, her Senior Manager Think Tank initiative promoted learning, internal networking, and presentation skills among managers. Marlene serves as Chair on CPA Canada’s Income Tax Education Committee and is a Governor and member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Tax Foundation.  She is also Ambassador of the Women’s College Hospital capital campaign.

Andrew Clarke, FCPA, FCA

Andrew Clarke is Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice-President, TD Bank Group. During a time of significant regulatory change, Andrew implemented a Conduct Risk Management Program across the bank and enhanced the reporting and governance of compliance risks. He also led a $200-million project to comply with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act and Common Reporting Systems requirements. In addition, Andrew’s Career Development Committee expanded beyond Compliance to include Anti-Money Laundering and Legal departments. Andrew previously sat on CPA Ontario’s ICAO Practice Inspection Committee and served as Board member and Finance Chair at Prostate Cancer Canada. He is currently a member of the Finance Committee at Lakefield College School and is Team Manager for York Mills Hockey Association.

Sean Debow, FCPA, FCA

Sean Debow is Founder, CEO, and CIO at Interlink Asia Pacific Limited, an alternative asset management firm focused on fundamental, bottom-up research. Sean oversees a team of professionals based in Hong Kong, Delhi, and Singapore, and is responsible for attracting prestigious investors, such as university endowment and sovereign wealth funds. Sean is known for being an approachable leader, providing guidance to his peers and team, and contributing to accounting seminars when possible. Sean is also Co-Founder and Vice-Chair of the Hong Kong and Macau Chapter of CPA Canada, President of a Hong Kong charity that addresses poverty, and is a member of the Hong Kong International School’s Advancement Committee.

Betty Ferreira, FCPA, FCMA

 Betty Ferreira is Management Consultant and Owner of ReStructure Consulting, a niche consulting firm focused on building the resilience of not-for-profit organizations. In this role, Betty has significantly advanced non-profit financial literacy and leadership in Ontario. In 2014, she created CPA Ontario’s Not-For-Profit Finance Leadership Certificate program, a first of its kind in Canada. Betty remains the sole instructor for this often sold-out program. Betty is the founder, co-producer, MC, and inspiration behind CPA Ontario’s annual Not-For-Profit Conference. She is also a member of the Accounting Standards Board of Canada’s Not-For-Profit Advisory Committee, an advisor to the Board of Data for Good, and influencer and co-designer of an economic analysis of the non-profit sector in Ontario.

Betty Ferreira reflects on what it means to be named a Fellow.

Charles Fisher, FCPA, FCGA

As Controller at Mainstreet Credit Union, Charles Fisher planned and implemented a new budget, forecasting, and a financial reporting system that resulted in significant efficiencies to the operation. Charles also played a key role in merging three Credit Unions while simultaneously maintaining accounting and bank systems as well as regulatory compliance. In 2013, Charles was recognized for his involvement in Sarnia’s inaugural Dining in the Dark, and continues to coordinate fundraising activities in Sarnia. Currently, Charles serves as Chair of the Board on the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce and sits on the Board of Goodwill Industries (Essex, Kent, Lambton) and the Finance Committee of the Sarnia Community Foundation (past Chair - 2014). Since 1993, Charles has been a volunteer instructor at Bluewater Taekwondo.

Thomas Flynn, FCPA, FCA

Thomas Flynn is Chief Financial Officer at BMO Financial Group. For more than a decade, he has contributed to the company’s significant growth in revenue and income, which have all more than doubled since 2007. He was also responsible for leading the adoption of new accounting standards as well as bank capital and regulatory requirements. Under Thomas’ leadership, BMO received the 2017 CPA Platinum Award for Excellence in corporate reporting, marking the third consecutive year BMO was recognized for excellence in this category. Thomas is a member of the Board of Directors at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Major Individual Giving Campaign Cabinet at United Way (Toronto).

John Friedlan, FCPA, FCA

As Associate Professor, Accounting Program Director, and previous Associate Dean (2017-2018) at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), John Friedlan has established himself as a leading accounting educator and administrator. With the goal of attracting more students to the accounting profession, John wrote and published a forward-looking accounting textbook that focuses on critical-thinking skills rather than rote memorization. In addition to overhauling UOIT’s accounting courses, John recently developed a graduate diploma program in accounting. He also spent many years developing competency exams for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Previously, John served as Chair for the Canadian Academic Accounting Association’s Education Committee and volunteered his time as Editor for Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ CA Magazine Education Department.

Robert Gauvreau, FCPA, FCA

Robert Gauvreau is President, CEO, and Partner at Gauvreau & Associates CPA, a business he launched in 2008 when he was only 26. Ten years later, his practice won the 2018 Best of Accounting Award, an accolade that less than one per cent of all North American accounting firms have earned. Robert was also recognized by Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce’s Top 4 Under 40 profile program, was the recipient of Peterborough’s Favourite Accountant and Accounting Firm awards four times, and won Trent University’s 2017 Young Leader Award. As Founder of Startup Peterborough, Robert helps local entrepreneurs connect with the necessary resources and support. Robert also sat on the Board for Peterborough Regional Health Centre and served as Treasurer at Camp Kawartha.

Terry Goodtrack, FCPA, FCGA

Terry Goodtrack is President and CEO of AFOA Canada, where he co-founded the AFOA Canada Harvard Business School Certificate Program on Leading People and Investing in Sustainable Communities. He was responsible for the development and implementation of the Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrator program and the Certified Indigenous Leadership program. Terry also oversaw the alignment of AFOA Canada’s Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager program with CPA Canada’s Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance. Terry founded the International Indigenous Conference on Finance, Management, and Leadership in 2017, bringing together CPAs from around the world. Terry serves as Co-Chair on both the Progressive Aboriginal Relations Jury for the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and Carleton University’s Indigenous Policy and Administration graduate program. He is also the Treasurer and Director of the Indigenous Learning Centre Charity.

Jacqueline Hatherly-Martin, FCPA, FCA

As Principal at Hatherly Martin Professional Corporation for nearly 20 years, Jacqueline Hatherly-Martin provided charity organizations and young businesses with financial expertise, guidance, and support. Now the full-time Director of Finance at SHAD Canada, she is responsible for financial reporting, growing budgets and revenues, and managing regulatory compliance. Recently, Jacqueline split her time between three roles: Director of Finance at SHAD Canada, Chief Financial Officer at Overlap Associates, and Director of Finance at BW Strassburger Limited. Jacqueline is a member of the Executive Board at the YMCA of Cambridge, also serving as Chair of their Board of Directors. Since 1990, Jacqueline has devoted her time to mentoring students of a variety of ages in finance and accounting.

Ian Hendry, FCPA, FCA

Ian Hendry is Co-Founder and Partner at Hendry Warren LLP, where he oversaw the acquisition of a new business unit and is responsible for improving the company’s cross-border capacity. The firm is now one of two Canadian representatives for the INPACT accounting alliance and is the top ranked firm in INPACT North America. Under Ian’s leadership, the practice grew into a mid-size firm of seven partners and more than 45 staff in less than five years. Ian also helped grow the firm’s revenue by more than 53 per cent since 2013. Ian is a member of Roger Neilson House’s Board of Directors, and was recognized for his service and dedication to the organization by the Honourable David McGuinty, MP, in 2017.

Timothy Hodgson, FCPA, FCA

Timothy Hodgson is Managing Partner of Alignvest Management Corporation. Prior to joining Alignvest, Mr. Hodgson was Special Advisor to Governor Mark Carney at the Bank of Canada from 2010 to 2012. From 1990 to 2010, Mr. Hodgson held various positions in Goldman Sachs, and served as Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs Canada from 2005 to 2010. Mr. Hodgson currently sits on the boards of Hydro One, The Public Sector Pension Investment Board, MEG Energy, Alignvest Acquisition II Corporation, and Next Canada. Mr. Hodgson holds a Masters of Business Administration from The Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), and a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Tony Ianni, FCPA, FCA

Tony Ianni is Chair of the Board at Ernst & Young Orenda Corporate Finance Inc. (EYCF), as well as the Global Client Services Partner for one of EY’s most complex global accounts. He is also the first National Real Estate and Hospitality Sector Leader at EY Canada. As EYCF’s past president, Tony is responsible for providing the new president with strategic assistance focused on growth, profitability, and personnel. Tony is also a member of the Board of Directors at Mackenzie Health, where he has served as Chair since 2016. Tony was recruited to join the Board to help the team plan, develop, and manage the construction of the new Mackenzie Vaughn Hospital via a public-private partnership model — a $1.6-billion project.

Humayun Jafrani, FCPA, FCA

As Managing Partner, Financial Services Assurance, at Ernst & Young (EY), Humayun Jafrani determines strategy and operations in the financial services sector. Since taking on this role, he has helped EY’s Financial Services Organization reinforce its market dominance by winning new audits, building relationships, and enhancing the Financial Services Organization’s brand. Humayun is also the Lead Signing Partner on one of the largest Canadian Banks.  He has served a number of public companies in banking and capital markets over the years. In 2013, Humayun won EY Americas’ Inclusive Leadership Award for integrating diverse perspectives and leveraging the profiles of visible minorities and women to EY’s leadership team, and was also the Chair for EY’s United Way campaign. He is currently a member of Ascend Canada’s Chief Inclusiveness Officers Forum.

Joanne Jones, FCPA, FCA

Joanne Jones is an Associate Professor of Auditing at York University, where her contributions to accounting and assurance education as well as the study of accounting and academic ethics have been deemed exceptional. Joanne has published numerous peer-reviewed book chapters and journal articles, the latter of which have been published in leading accounting and business ethics journals. She also authored the last two Canadian editions of an undergraduate audit textbook that is used in post-secondary institutions across the country. Joanne is an active volunteer for the Canadian Academic Accounting Association and the Associate Editor at Accounting Perspectives, a peer-reviewed academic journal that provides new insights into Canadian accounting research, policy, and education.

Louis Kan, FCPA, FCA

Louis Kan is considered a leading expert in electoral financing legislation and administration in Ontario, where his advice is sought by policymakers and stakeholders from numerous jurisdictions. Louis was the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario and has worked at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Elections Ontario, and the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner. Louis is a member of the Heritage Toronto’s Board of Directors, where he serves as the Chair of their Finance Committee. He also sits on the board of the Don Valley West Federal and Provincial Conservative Electoral District Associations and won the Government of Canada’s Don Valley West Volunteer Award in 2015.

Diane Kazarian, FCPA, FCA

Since 1990, Diane Kazarian has excelled in various leadership roles at PwC Canada. Most recently, Diane moved into the role of GTA Managing Partner, where she leads PwC’s largest Canadian market, managing more than 3,000 professionals and 300 partners, and representing all key industries. Diane’s mandate and focus is on three key pillars including revenue growth, brand amplification, and stakeholder engagement. Prior to this role, Diane was PwC’s National Financial Services Leader, during which time she grew the practice considerably. Diane is also a member of the Steering Committee at the Financial Institution Forum, serves as PwC Chair at United Way (GTA), and is one of the Founding Partners of #movethedial, an organization committed to advancing women in technology.

Cary List, FCPA, FCA

Cary List is President and CEO of the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC), which confers CFP certification in Canada. Cary has been involved with FPSC for 20 years and became CEO in 2006. Throughout his career at FPSC, Cary has helped the organization grow to its current position as a leader in the financial services industry, both in Canada and globally. He was also instrumental in the creation of the independent Financial Planning Research Foundation. His volunteer roles include International Council Chair of the Financial Planning Standard Board, and he was previously President of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence as well as a member of both the federal government’s Financial Literacy Steering Committee and the Investor Advisory Panel for the Ontario Securities Commission.

Jim MacNeill, FCPA, FCA

At the age of 26 years old, Jim MacNeill founded a two-person accounting firm in 1979.  Since then, he has grown the firm to 26 people with an emphasis on providing all of the varied services that growing entrepreneurial businesses require in Southwestern Ontario.  Many of these businesses have succeeded with him over a 40-year working relationship.  Throughout the years, Jim has been active within his profession, his community, and as an educator. With an expertise in taxation, Jim attends and presents at numerous conferences and events. Previously, Jim lectured on personal and corporate taxation at Western University, and he has published papers on relevant taxation topics.  He is frequently contacted as an expert resource by the media.

Scott Mantle, FCPA, FCA

As Chief Administrative Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister for the Ontario government, Scott Mantle provides strategic leadership to the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development, and Mines in all its core administrative service functions. Due to his progressive action plan, the ministry achieved the highest national standard of organizational excellence as assessed by Excellence Canada. Scott’s direction influenced legislative change in the operations and structuring of ministry agencies, such as the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and Ontario Transportation Commissions. Scott has served as an expert witness for the Ontario Government on environmental and financial assurance matters, as well as Indigenous treaty issues, and previously sat on several Boards, including Northern Cancer Research Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and community arts groups and festivals.

Arun Mathur, FCPA, FCA

Arun Mathur is Partner at Gerald Duthie & Co. LLP, where he provides professional services to a diverse group of clients. Arun is also Owner and Lead Instructor at UltimQuest Knowledge Inc., offering corporate training on improving governance, ethics, internal control, performance measurement, and related topics. He provides live and online training through CPA institutes across Canada and Bermuda. Arun is the Chief Ethics Officer and chairs the Finance and Audit Committee at HealthForce Ontario Marketing and Recruitment Agency, and has been nominated as the incoming Board Chair. Arun was also Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee for the Trillium Gift of Life Network, and has volunteered for Langar Seva Meal Services and various Toronto shelters.

Susan McCracken, FCPA, FCA

Susan McCracken is Associate Professor at McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business, where she has taught elective accounting courses in the Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs. During her time at McMaster, Susan has taken on important leadership roles, currently serving as Associate Dean, Academic. In this role, she maintains the high quality of the undergraduate curriculum, ensuring the program meets accreditation standards and prepares new graduates to become successful business leaders. Previously, as MBA Director, Susan was instrumental in the redesign of both the full-time and part-time MBA programs. Susan is also Centre Director at McMaster’s Centre for the Promotion of Accounting Education and Research, and is President and board member at Skate Oakville.

William Merklinger, FCPA, FCMA

In 2016, William Merklinger left his 35-year career in federal public service to become Curling Canada’s Executive Director, Corporate Services. In this transformational role, William supports the CEO and leadership team through the modernization of the organization’s corporate functions, policies, operational practices, and strategic outcomes.  Curling Canada achieved a dramatic turnaround in the last two fiscal years, enabling the organization to deliver on its strategic objectives. William also implemented a group RRSP savings plan and an employee TFSA savings plan, and has been collaborating with several national sports organizations to provide financial coaching and mentoring to their staff. William previously served as Chair of CMA Ontario’s Finance and Audit Committee and took on senior leadership volunteer roles at United Way’s Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign.

William Merklinger reflects on what it means to be named a Fellow.

Laura Mirabella, FCPA, FCA

Laura Mirabella is the Commissioner of Finance and Regional Treasurer at the Regional Municipality of York. In this role, Laura drives fiscal sustainability and value-for-money in public services. She is also overseeing the multi-year modernization of key regional, financial, and procurement systems through investments in technology, process improvements, and staff development, and is helping the organization navigate a changing policy and political landscape. Laura is a member of CPA Canada’s Public Financial Management and Advisory Committee, and serves as Chair of McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s Finance Committee. As a member of the Municipal Finance Officers’ Association (MFOA), she regularly advises the association and has been presenting on asset management and budget development at MFOA conferences and seminars since 2016.

Silvia Montefiore, FCPA, FCA

Silvia Montefiore is Canadian Managing Partner, Business Enablement and Operations at KPMG. Since taking on this role in 2016, she has worked closely with the CEO and the rest of the executive team in developing and executing KPMG’s five-year strategic plan, which includes ambitious growth initiatives. Silvia has led the transformation of KPMG’s Business Enablement Services by establishing Centres of Expertise and creating a “How can I help?” culture, which has had a positive impact on the firm. Silvia is also the lead audit partner for some of Canada’s largest technology and gaming companies. Silvia is a founding sponsor of Women Get on Board, a member of Women United, and serves on the William Osler Health Systems’ Board of Directors.

Enzo Morini, FCPA, FCA

Enzo Morini is Tax Partner at Williams & Partners Chartered Professional Accountants LLP. As a key member of the partnership team, Enzo continues to oversee the significant growth of a firm that has become one of the leading accounting teams in the GTA. Enzo was instrumental in the formation of the tax team of professionals that focuses on tax minimization strategies for owner-managed clients including compensation planning, corporate structures, re-organizations, and government funding claims. He has authored numerous educational articles used in the firm’s media publications and publishes an ongoing series of tax tips. Enzo is the past Chair of the Mackenzie Health Foundation, the Chair at Mariann Home and is a director with Bel Canto Foundation.

J. Michael Owens, FCPA, FCA

J. Michael Owens spent the last 20 years in senior leadership roles at Deloitte LLP, in Canada and globally. Now, as Senior Partner, Clients and Markets, Michael leverages his extensive experience as relationship and advisory partner for some of the firm’s most complex clients. A standing member of the Marketplace Committee of the Executive, Michael contributes to the shaping of Deloitte’s market strategy. He is committed to teaching the next generation of accountants and helping develop professional skills in the firm’s emerging leaders. Michael also acts as a board member and mentor at the Wallace McCain Institute for Entrepreneurship. Beppino Pasquali, FCPA, FCA

Beppino Pasquali is Director and sole shareholder at Beppino Pasquali Professional Corporation, where he provides tax advice to private and not-for-profit organizations, and offers pro bono tax preparation services to low income seniors. Beppino is also Adjunct Professor at York University’s Schulich School of Business, course developer and lecturer at Schulich Executive Education Centre (SEEC), and Accounting Professor at Kellogg-Schulich Executive MBA (Canada and Israel). Beppino’s course, “What the Non-Financial Manager Needs to Know About Financial and Managerial Accounting,” is the most attended course at SEEC, and his Kellogg-Schulich EMBA students have awarded Beppino Professor of the Year for eight consecutive years. Beppino is a volunteer organizer and Buddy Walk donor at the Down Syndrome Association of York Region.

Iseo Pasquali

Iseo Pasquali, FCPA, FCA

As Partner in the Financial Advisory Business at Deloitte LLP, Iseo Pasquali performs valuation engagements for public and private companies both nationally and internationally. Iseo has given expert testimony on the subjects of damage quantification, business valuation, and forensic services. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Deloitte Canada and was the Chief Operating Officer for Deloitte’s Global Financial Advisory business. He sits on the Board of Trustees for the International Valuation Standards Council, and is a founding board member of the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund. Iseo is also a member of the Toronto chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization.

Tony Pedari

Tony Pedari, FCPA, FCA

Tony Pedari is Senior Risk Assurance Partner at PwC Canada, where he leads the development and sales of solutions for clients’ complex risk and control issues, such as cybersecurity and other emerging technology risks. Over the years, he has led and participated in numerous thought leadership campaigns that focus on emerging risks as well as regulatory and CPA standard changes. Tony helped establish the Risk Assurance practice as a distinct training office within PwC, providing students of the CPA program with avenues to explore outside of the traditional external audit stream. Tony is a member of CPA Ontario’s Membership Committee and the LGBTQ2+ Diversity Advisory Committee, and is also a board member of the Alzheimer Society of Toronto and the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR).

Michael Pinnock, FCPA, FCA

As a sole practitioner, Michael Pinnock has distinguished himself as an astute accountant, providing assurance and consultancy services to organizations and businesses around the world. He continues to build professional relationships with his clients, and offers timely, practical solutions for their businesses. A firm believer in giving back, Michael has provided more than 6,000 hours of pro bono financial statement audits to charities and not-for-profit organizations. In 2014, Michael received an award from the City of Markham for outstanding contribution and service to the community. He has also done board and committee work with the Ontario Trillium Foundation, York Region Children’s Aid Society, and York Regional Police, and served as Treasurer for several charitable organizations.

David Regan, FCPA, FCA

David Regan is National Partner in Charge at KPMG’s Tax Incentives Practice, where his focus is on the Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) program. He is a frequent speaker, conference organizer, author, and ambassador for the SR&ED program, and has worked with CPA Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency on their inaugural SR&ED Symposiums. David co-authored the International Fiscal Association’s Report on R&D Tax Incentives (Canada), and has taught tax courses at the university level for many years. His community involvement includes board member at Trillium Health Partners Foundation as well as founding board member of Peel Senior Link. David is a major benefactor to the United Way of Greater Toronto, Trillium Health Partners, and others.

Helga Reidel

Helga Reidel, FCPA, FCA

Helga Reidel is President and CEO of the ENWIN Group of Companies, which is comprised of ENWIN Utilities Ltd., ENWIN Energy Ltd., Windsor Canada Utilities Ltd., and Windsor Utilities Commission. In this role, she reports to four separate Boards of Directors, and has carried out numerous key accomplishments in her first two years. Helga negotiated a resolution on a long-standing critical water service agreement with a neighbouring municipality, and designed and implemented a performance-based incentive program for executives. Helga is a member of the University of Windsor’s Board of Governors and the Windsor Public Library’s Board of Directors, and is also a founding member of the Private Directors Association of Detroit.

Claude Rochette

Claude Rochette, FCPA, FCMA

Claude Rochette is Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer at the Department of National Defence (DND). In this role, Claude has implemented the key tenets of the Government of Canada Chief Financial Officer Model, which emphasizes stewardship, efficient operations, and business advice; consolidated the function of Life Cycle Costing; and focused on sound financial management practices for budgeting and forecasting. He also proposed and negotiated a new funding model, which was a finalist for the Association of Professional Executives of the Public Service of Canada’s Innovation Award in 2018 and is recognized as a model for other capital-intensive departments. As DND Champion Fundraiser for the Ottawa Hospital Breakfast Fund, Claude collected $1 million on behalf of the institution.

Michael Rolland

Michael Rolland, FCPA, FCA

Michael Rolland has spent nearly 20 years of his career in a number of leadership roles at the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). In his current position, as President and Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific, Michael oversees and directs OMERS operations, business relationships, and growth opportunities managed out of the OMERS Singapore and Australia offices. Previously, Michael was responsible for the evolution of OMERS Infrastructure and OMERS Private Equity, transforming these businesses into leading global investment operations. Michael sits on the Board of Directors at Plan International Canada, and is a Leadership Council member at Ivey School of Business’ Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership.

Stephen Shea

Stephen Shea is Canadian Managing Partner, Talent, at Ernst & Young (EY), where he leads the transformation of the firm’s talent agenda by focusing on employee experience, high-performance teaming, and personal development and learning. As a result, EY has been rated No. 1 for on-campus recruiting for the past five years, and is ranked second (behind Google) for business. Under Stephen’s leadership, the firm has been the recipient of numerous awards, such as Best Workplaces by Great Places to Work Institute Canada (2015 to 2018) and Universum’s World’s Most Attractive Employers (2014 to 2017). Stephen regularly speaks at industry events for organizations such as Schulich School of Business, and serves as Chair for the New Beginnings Support Program’s Board of Directors.

Garth Steele

Garth Steele, FCPA, FCA

As Partner at Welch LLP for the past 25 years, Garth Steele provides accounting, finance, and taxation advice to small- and medium-sized businesses in eastern Ontario and western Quebec. During this time, he has been contracted by CPA Ontario to deliver annual GST/HST professional development courses across the province. Course ratings remain high and are typically in the range of 92 to 98 per cent. In the Ottawa market, Garth was named one of the “top 5” most knowledgeable and engaging professionals in his field. Garth is a volunteer lecturer at CPA Canada’s annual Commodity Tax Symposium, and was previously a member of the board and Treasurer at The Union Mission for Men and First Place Maternal Health Options Inc.

Paul Stringer

Paul Stringer, FCPA, FCA

Paul Stringer has been Partner at Durward Jones Barkwell & Company LLP for more than 30 years. During that time, Paul has taken on many leadership roles and has contributed to the growth and success of the company in significant ways. He was involved in numerous mergers and acquisitions, resulting in the creation of offices in both Fort Erie and Stoney Creek. He was also fundamental in the launch of some of the firm’s specialty service offerings, such as business transition and family enterprise advisory as well as the wealth management practice, of which he is co-organizer of the Breakfast Working Group. Paul also serves as Director and Chair of the Governance Committee at Independent Accountants Financial Group Inc.

Beth Summers

Beth Summers, FCPA, FCA

As Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer at Superior Plus Corporation, Beth Summers drives the finance vision and strategy across all divisions of the business. Under her leadership, the company completed the divestiture of the Construction Products Distribution operating segment, the U.S. Wholesale Refined Fuels business, and the acquisitions of Canwest Propane and NGL Energy Partners retail propane business segment. Beth oversees Superior Plus’ Charity Giving Program, where she has established the annual giving budget, assesses requests, coordinates donations, and encourages corporate and personal giving. She also champions the company’s participation in the OneWalk to Conquer Cancer, which benefits the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Beth is Executive Sponsor for CPA Ontario’s Pre-Approved Program at Superior Plus, and served as Co-Chair for the Canadian Women’s Foundation.

Kelvin Vi Loan Tran

Kelvin Vi Luan Tran, FCPA, FCA

Kelvin Vi Luan Tran is Senior Vice-President and Chief Auditor at TD Bank Group, where he leads a team of more than 400 professionals worldwide and provides risk-related insight. Currently at TD, he is building the Audit of the Future program, which identifies and addresses emerging technology and operational risks. A champion of inclusion and diversity, Kelvin serves as Chair of the Visible Minority Committee of TD Bank and is the founding President of Ascend Canada, a not-for-profit organization focused on developing Pan-Asian leaders. He also serves as the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance, Pension and Audit Committee at the University of Toronto Board of Regents of Victoria University, and is a community board member at the Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Paul Tyers

Paul Tyers, FCPA, FCA

Paul Tyers is the Managing Director at Wealth Stewards, a group that facilitates CPAs in public accounting to integrate a full suite of wealth advisory services into their business. Under Paul’s leadership, Wealth Stewards has established itself as a leading financial planning and portfolio management firm. In 2018, Paul and his team were the recipients of the Global Financial Planning Award for Canada for the second consecutive year, and Paul was recognized as a finalist Alternate Asset Manager for his innovation in managing a life settlements portfolio. As a participant at Leader Impact Group, Paul has taught leadership skills and provided mentoring to youth and business owners. Most recently, he assisted a refugee from Zimbabwe to re-establish his professional investment career in Canada.

Daniel Warren

Daniel Warren, FCPA, FCA

Daniel Warren is Co-Founding Partner and Senior Tax Partner at Hendry Warren LLP. As Hendry Warren’s first Finance Partner, Daniel was responsible for ensuring monthly billings were issued quickly and receivables were kept current, consistently maintaining the firm’s line of credit at $100,000. Daniel was also integral to the development of an integrated client service plan, one that enhanced the firm’s reputation and helped attract new clients. Daniel is a member of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation’s Legacy Committee, where he educates potential donors on tax-effective methods of making a donation or leaving a bequest through their will. A firm believer in the importance of professional development, Daniel has presented at numerous CPA Canada conferences over the years.

Wendy Watson, FCPA, FCGA

Since 2010, Wendy Watson has provided exceptional leadership in several director roles at Citizens Bank Group, serving as Chair of the Audit Committee and member of both the Risk and Compliance and HR and Compensation Committees. In 2014, as the Bank prepared to go public, Wendy ensured the right controls and governance structures were put in place and that internal staff and external parties were appropriately prepared. Since going public, the company exceeded all of its quarterly targets. Wendy also serves as a Director on Foresters, MD Private Trust, and prior to its acquisition in September, MD Financial. Wendy is a member of McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management’s Advisory Panel, Economic Mobility Pathways’ Advisory Board, and Boston Children’s Hospital’s Committee for Community Service.

Amy Wilcox

Amy Wilcox, FCPA, FCMA

Amy Wilcox is Manager, Corporate Initiatives, for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. In this role, she has been instrumental in developing CK Plan 2035, a community-based strategy that will be the foundation for all future decision-making. Amy worked with the Strategic Priorities Advisory Committee, as well as local residents, businesses, school boards, post-secondary institutions, hospitals, and community organizations to create this council-approved plan. Amy was a member of the board for Chatham-Kent Victim Services and is a board member of CK Sirens for Community Safety, an organization for which she is also the founding member. After buying a farm in 2008, Amy launched a conservation project with Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Eric Xiao, FCPA, FCA

Eric Xiao is a Senior Partner at Ernst & Young (EY) Canada and leads the Toronto Transaction Tax practice. As the lead tax partner on numerous M&A transactions, Eric is responsible for bringing the firm’s services to multinational clients on transactions. Eric was the first Chinese immigrant to be promoted to partner at EY Canada, and is a recognized role model for young immigrants in his field. Eric is a member of the Joint Committee on Taxation of the Canadian Bar Association and CPA Canada, and is also President of CPAC (formerly the Chinese Professionals Association of Canada), where he has made a significant contributions in assisting immigrant professionals to find mentors and advance their professional careers in Canada.
